Let's say you have an objective function ${\displaystyle f\colon \mathbb {R} ^{D}\to \mathbb {R} }$, and you constrain your search space to ${\displaystyle \prod _{i=1}^{D}[L_{i},U_{i}]}$. A technique called Particle Swarm Optimization employs methods inspired by swarms in nature to search for the global minimum of ${\displaystyle f}$. I used it to fit a differential equations model to data from Cholera outbreaks in Haiti.
